Visiting programme at Euroregion Neisse – Nisa – Nysa
As part of the visiting programme “Peace and Exchange in Europe and Northeast Asia – remembering, reconciliation, exchanges”, a delegation visited different cities and sights in Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland. The goal of the trip is to promote the dialogue of reconciliation and peace in Europe and Northeast Asia. The duration of the visiting programme was from the 26th of May till the 1st of June.
On the 31st of May, the delegation visited Trojmezí, where the borders of Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland meet. Trojmezí is a location the visitor specifically enjoyed. Being able to cross borders so easily and without any checkpoints, is very uncommon for Northeast Asian regions. The trip was partially organized by the organization Euroregion Neisse – Nisa – Nysa, which embodies a rich tapestry of history shaped by centuries of cultural exchange and cooperation. The regions have always intertwined with each other and borders in the area have shifted. Despite the challenges of wars and conflicts in the past, the resilience of the region’s communities has prevailed, fostering a sense of common identity and purpose.
More than 1.5 million people live in this area, why it is important to work on the following aspects: Elimination of the negative influence of state borders of that region, improving the living standards of the residents, improving the natural and cultural-political conditions of life, and developing the economic potential in this region. The region is thriving due to its cooperation and active measures that are being taken by its members. There are three offices, in Zittau (Germany), Liberec (Czech Republic), and Jelena Gora (Poland). In 30 years, they have worked to improve issues like infrastructure, building environmental networks, promoting the economy, and tourism, and easing international trade with each other. Aside from these interoffice co-operations, each location has its small project as well as which goals it is to work on individual and local goals. The region's population can suggest projects as well and can apply for small project funds at the organization.
Members of the delegation were Dr. Seliger (Country representative HSF Korea), Nyambayar Purevsuren (Researcher at National Institute for Strategic Studies of Mongolia: Economic Analyst at Parliament Television of Mongolia, from Mongolia), Hanna Suh (Research Fellow at CINAP; Committee Advisory Member at CBCK, from South Korea), Dr. Seiko Mimaki (Concurrent Researcher at Center for Transimperial History, from Japan), and Prof. Meng Hong (Professor for German politics, society and culture at Remin-University Beijing, from China).
