Inter-Korean Environmental Cooperation
46th Unification Korea Forum (Tongil Hankuk Forum)
On September 29, 2025, the 46th Unification Korea Forum was held at Kangwon National University in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, co-hosted by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Institute for Peace Affairs, and the Kangwon National University Institute for Unification Studies. The forum, titled "Inter-Korean Environmental Cooperation in the Border Region: What Directions Are Sustainable?", featured a keynote address by Dr. Na Yong-woo of the Korea Institute for Unification Studies, and discussion sessions by Dr. Lee Na-young of the Kangwon National University DMZ Border Research Institute and Dr. Park Sang-hoon of the Kangwon National University Institute for Unification Studies.
The border region could be a valuable space for cooperation in inter-Korean exchanges and preparations for unification. However, due to years of stagnant inter-Korean relations, so far no cooperative initiatives have taken place. The purpose of the forum was to identify the right direction for development in the border region, explore solutions to the current situation, and discuss future possibilities for inter-Korean cooperation. The forum resulted in the presentation of concrete solutions and lively discussions.
