EAAFP Marks 20 Years
EAAFP 20th Anniversary Ceremony and International Forum

HSF Korea joined international partners at the EAAFP 20th Anniversary Ceremony and International Forum to strengthen cooperation for migratory waterbird conservation. The event highlighted new partnerships, the launch of the First International Black-faced Spoonbill Day poster, and a shared commitment to protecting the East Asian–Australasian Flyway.

The East Asian–Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) 20th Anniversary Ceremony and International Forum were held on 14 July 2026. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on two decades of international cooperation while sharing a common vision for the future of migratory waterbird conservation and biodiversity.

During the ceremony, the EAAFP strengthened its international cooperation framework by signing a MOU with Beijing Forestry University and renewing its MOU with the Asian Development Bank. In addition, Incheon Metropolitan City received international recognition for its longstanding contributions to the conservation of migratory waterbirds and wetland ecosystems. In the afternoon, the International Black-faced Spoonbill Forum provided a platform for exchanging conservation experiences, presenting the latest research findings, and strengthening collaborative networks among governments, international organizations, academia, civil society, and the private sector.

As an EAAFP partner, HSF Korea supported the launch of the official poster for the First International Black-faced Spoonbill Day. Representatives from Hong Kong, Japan, and the Republic of Korea also presented their respective activities commemorating the inaugural International Black-faced Spoonbill Day, including the production of posters in local languages, regional conservation initiatives, and progress in protecting the species and its habitats. Participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to the long-term conservation of the Black-faced Spoonbill and the EAAF, while discussing future priorities and practical strategies to strengthen international cooperation. HSF Korea also shared its experience in conserving the Black-faced Spoonbill across the Korean Peninsula and the broader East Asian region.

The partners, including HSF Korea, will work together to strengthen international collaboration and promote coordinated conservation efforts for the species and its critical habitat along the Flyway.
