UCC Prize Ceremony of the Institute for Peace Affairs and Hanns Seidel Foundation

The longer the division on the Korean peninsula lasts, the less young people are aware of the implications of division and the fate of North Koreans. The use of new media is one way to create more interest among young people for this topic. Therefore, to raise awareness, the Institute for Peace Affiars and the Hanns Seidel Foundation as a main sponsor since four years arrange a UCC (formerly SNS) competition on North Korea and unification issues. Teams of middle schools, high schools and universities created video clips related to their view on Korean division and unification. Main topic this year was the differences of societies of North and South and ways to integrate both societies.

October 28, 2016, the 5th Ceremony for the UCC prize of the Institute for Peace Affairs and Hanns Seidel Foundation was held in Seoul History Museum. This year, over 100 teams of middle schools competed. The first prize went to the team from Yumkwang Middle school, introducing the estimated future after reunification in economic, cultural and social areas. During the meeting in Seoul History Museum 10 different clips were shown and Ms. Kim Kyung-Hee, a teacher of Heavenly Dream School which where North Korean defectors study, told her story of experience and life with the students from North Korea. She emphasized that there must be more systematical help and institutions for them to more confidently settle down here. Dr. Bernhard Seliger, resident representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea office, in his congratulatory remark pointed out that the young generation is both hope and key to peaceful unification in the near future. He also said despite the current difficult political situation, it is still important to work for better understanding with more cooperation, which is exactly the goal of this program.  The results can be found (in Korean) at the blog http://blog.naver.com/ipa1983 (click on 카테고리/ 통일미래비전 공모전).
