Forum
Korean Women and Politics

Our partner Center for Korean Women & Politics has hosted the seventeenth 2 for 1 forum together with Psyche Academia (PA), a group of North Korean defectors. The forum was initiated to exchange views on the changing diplomatic situation on the Korean Peninsula ahead of the US-North Korea-Summit in Hanoi. The forum included discussions, group work and presentations about studies on historical, present and future diplomacy.

Participants of the forum discuss inter-korean diplomacy

The theme of the meeting was about a study on the Non-Aligned Diplomacy of Pyongyang and the implications of the Korean Peninsula in 2019. In the 1970s and thereafter, North Korea has engaged in diplomatic activities in the non-aligned movement and had benefited from the economic growth of the socialist faction. South Korea was not able to conduct in diplomacy with the non-aligned movement as they had sent troops to Vietnam in order to support their ally USA.

The current political and diplomatic relationships have once again become very complex and difficult. Attendees of the forum have discussed about the diplomatic reality right now in terms of inter-Korean, Korea-U. S., Korea-China and Korea-Japan relations. The North Korean defectors who participated at this forum have expressed their views and possible opportunities for action.

The discussions have also been about the difficulties of unification and the necessity of analyzing  and comparing the state on diplomatic relations, economic and cultural exchanges, various supporting activities and activities in international organizations as well as visiting diplomacy. The North Korean defectors have expressed that security and peace on the Korean Peninsula are still broad and difficult topics, as they have been in the past. They have also stated that through the participation to this regular forum, they are on their way to become a healthy democratic citizen.
