In October there were other numerous activities for the HSF Korea - forums and meetings such as for sustainable development, SDGs and cooperation and integration in the Baltic Sea Region and East Asia.

On October 24th-25th, the Asia-Europe Environment Forum, organized the spin-off conference “Circular Industry: Innovation and Digitization as Enablers for SMEs”, as part of its 3-year long program on circularity in the food systems sector, together with the HSF, SIDA of Sweden, IGES of Japan. The ENVF conference included keynotes, panel discussions, and networking sessions for participants, and focus on two themes: “Circular Economy as a Strategy for Decarbonization: The Role of SMEs as Enablers for Decarbonization” and “Twin Green and Digital Transition: Advancements in the Circular Industry in Asia and Europe”.

 

 

 

 

The 2022 Sustainable Development Transformation Forum hosted by the UNOSD took place from October 25th to 28th in Incheon. Topic of the forum was accelerating the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels. A wide range of policy makers, experts and representatives of the national, subnational, regional and international organizations participated to contribute to the strengthening of the science-policy interface. The SDTF also featured the SDGs 6, 7, 9, 11, and 17. On October 25th, HSF Korea research interns Nastassja Amling and Mieke Krupp attend this enlightening forum, witnessed vivid discussions on highly interesting topics and gained insight into the post-Covid situation of specific nations.

 

On October 26th, the “Korean-German Comparative Border Studies Forum” – a workshop hosted by Chung-Ang University and the University of Greifswald (Germany) took place. Under the theme “Cooperation and Integration in the Baltic Sea Region and East Asia” scholars working on the Baltic Sea region and East Asian maritime studies came together as well as research interns of HSF, who attended the forum‘s second session with the topic “Borders in East Asia“. Presentations on the international politics of maritime order in East Asia, the impact of the Ukraine war in East Asia discussed on the case of Japan’s northern territories, and a post-war history of Cho Seung-Bog were given. The workshop finished with discussion round ranging especially over the question of whether ASEAN could ever function as an ‘EU’ of east Asia. There were highly contrasting opinions and an active discussion on the topic.
