On May 9, celebrations for the 2022 Europe Day took place at Seoul Plaza, right in front of the Seoul City Hall. The team of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea participated in the event and contributed to the German embassy booth.
The opening of the event through a rendition of the European anthem was followed by a speech by the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez as well as a video greeting message by the Seoul mayor Mr. Se-Hoon Oh. Both emphasized the importance of cooperation between countries and expressed support for Ukraine. After that, the participants were engaged to spread around the plaza and explore the various booths.
Several European countries took part by presenting their respective cultures as well as information regarding their country in booths and provided mini games and goodies for the attendees. The German Embassy booth had not only prepared a quiz about Germany but also offered the tasting of German wines. Additionally, they introduced various German institutions active on the Korean peninsula. Two researchers of HSF Korea were given the opportunity to inform participants about the work and projects of HSF Korea.
Thanks to good weather and the efforts of the organizers, the event was a great success and everyone was able to spend an enjoyable day.
