From Biodiversity to Reunification Policy

In June and the beginning of July 2020, Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, and Dr. Hyun-ah Choi published a number of research papers, newspaper articles and reports in cooperation with various colleagues. The topics range from reunification policy to biodiversity.

Dr. Bernhard Seliger and Dr. Hyun-ah Choi have published a number of reports and articles during the recent weeks, dealing with various topics relevant to the work of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea.

In cooperation with Dr. Lee Hye-Kyung from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Dr. Choi published an article in the journal of the Korean - German Society for Social Sciences on "Status and Tasks of German Political Foundations: Focusing on Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea", which deals with the purpose and work of German political foundations. Together, Dr. Seliger and Dr. Choi, along with Nial Moores, Amaël Borzée, Chong Hwi Yoon, also worked on a series of biodiversity surveys in the border area with North Korea between November 2018 and April 2019, mainly to investigate the distribution of different bird species living there. The surveys’ key findings have been compiled in the recently published report.

Another research report by Dr. Choi in the International Journal of Korean Unification Studies deals with the topic "Toward a (Sub)-Regionalization of South Korea’s Unification Policy – the Proposal of a Romantic Road for Gangwon Province" and highlights the possibility of involving smaller provinces in unification projects by extending the tourist Romantic Road towards Wonsan or Munchon.

In addition, Dr. Seliger also published an article (in Korean language) in the Korean newspaper Jungang Ilbo (중앙일보) entitled "East German companies strive to consolidate economy and money” which deals with both the history and the current situation of East German companies, integrated in an international context.
