Kick-off of HSF's online series concerning wind energy

HSF's first seminar of its online series "Wind Energy - Sustainability, Economic and Ecological Aspects" for the Korean Gangwon Province took place. Prof. Dr. Fischedick was invited by the HSF as the kick-off speaker.

The German energy transition is often used as a best-practice example in South Korea. Therefore, Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea has been cooperating with Gangwon Province in a project on sustainable development of the border region since 2006. At the beginning of 2021, in the presence of the German Embassy, during talks with the energy department of Gangwon Province, a small seminar series on the topic of "Wind Energy - Sustainability, Economic and Ecological Aspects" was agreed to take place in autumn 2021. The series kicked off with a seminar led by Prof. Dr Manfred Fischedick on "Decarbonization of the energy system - what contribution must renewable energies and especially wind energy make from a global and national perspective".

Prof Dr Manfred Fischedick, German energy and climate researcher studied process engineering at the University of Dortmund and earned his doctorate in energy engineering at the University of Stuttgart. Prof. Dr. Fischedick gained many years of professional experience in the fields of energy system analysis, technology assessment, transformation research and sustainable urban infrastructures. During his lecture, he gave the participants from Gangwon Province an overview of the challenges of the energy transition in Germany and focused in particular on the field of wind energy. With the phase-out of nuclear energy and coal, Germany is facing the great challenge of having to cover more and more of its energy needs with renewable energy sources. In this context, wind energy, which can also be installed offshore and which, unlike solar energy, can also be used on a large scale for mass energy generation, especially in northern Germany, is of particular importance.
