It reflects the positive dimensions of forestry and suggests the need to proactively integrate forestry into the wider context of environment, society, and sustainable development.

Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Korea attended the APFW 2019 as an expert to share HSF Korea's work and discuss future direction for Inter-Korean Forestry Cooperation. Especially, Dr Choi participated Forest and Peace Forum in Asia hosted by Korea Forest Service (KFS) and Organized by C. and Young Steering Committee for South-North Korea Forestry Cooperation from 17 to 18 June.

The forum was started by video greetings from Mr Jae-Hyun Kim, President of KFS. Mr Chansik Jung, Senior researcher of KFS introduced history and current status of inter-Korean Forestry Cooperation process.

Mr Jung also suggested the step of cooperation including smart tree nursery in North Korea supported by South Korea for implementing 2018 Inter-Korean Summit. After Mr Jung’s presentation Mr Calvin Chua, Associated programme head, Choson Exchange introduces the chances in North Korea focusing on entrepreneurship. Mr Chua explained micro and macro level activities cycle through feedback loop creating impact. Mr Dae-Hyuk Choi, Team leader of planning and management team of Korea Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation explained the direction of Peace and Prosperity on the Korean Peninsula. Mr Choi emphasised the role of non-government organisation for peaceful cooperation. During the forum the international participants shared their activities focusing on peace, forest, and social contribution in various field and discussed future cooperation. The participants also did field trip followed Gimpo Pyunghoa-Nuri (Peace) Road to share the peaceful environment of DMZ.

Restoring Forests

Korea Forest Service and Asia Forest Forest Cooperation Organisation organised event on 19 June 2019 during APFW 2019. The main theme was Restoring Forest for Building Peace and Future. This event explored solid cases of building peace through collaborative forest restoration actions and shared a vision of making forestry sector contribute to a durable peace and security in Asia and the Pacific.
Dr Bernhard Seliger, Representative of Hanns Selidel Foundation (HSF) Korea attened the event as an invited speaker and did presentation about the forest cooperation on the Korean Peninsular related to HSF’s experiences.
